Stevens Towing of North Carolina recently commenced a long term contract with Nucor Steel to move DRI and other iron products from the Port of Morehead City, NC to Nucor’s Hertford County plate mill. The DRI arrives by ocean-going ship where it is transferred into a fleet of waiting barges, and subsequently transported almost 200 miles from the port to the mill. Stevens Towing of North Carolina built 20 new covered hopper barges to service this contract.
